AKA Community win planning for ‘Invisible house’

[FIRST LOOK] Net-zero ‘Invisible house’ begins work on greenbelt land in Greater Manchester

The ‘Invisible House’, sited on the Pennine Hills of Saddleworth, has received planning permission after a recent decision by Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council to open up greenbelt land for single private homes.

The earth sheltered home will be built into the side of the hill making it barely visible to surrounding properties.

Designed to be built using 100 per cent recycled materials and sustainable energy sources, the walls will be constructed from tyre bales, diverting this waste away from landfill.

AKA Community’s lead designer, Deramore Hutchcroft is convinced allowing small pockets of green belt to be developed with consideration for local environment can provide much needed affordable homes and create a solution to the national shortage of housing.
