Distinctive feature: Regular input from practicing professionals

Director comment: The directors acknowledge that the international community is still divided on the sustainable credentials of the tall building. Students reinvent the tall building as a model for dense, sustainable future cities. This research has resulted in many innovative tall building forms and functions: vertical farms alleviating environmental problems of imported agriculture (and consequential food miles), tall buildings accommodating sporting functions, vertical “aquifers” that maximise rainwater capture and recycling to help address the growing global decline of water resources, tall buildings encompassing wind and solar farms and many more.

Student comment: The atmosphere in the studio is lively with enthusiasm pouring in from all quarters. The individual flavour imparted by the directors never fails to inspire enthusiastic responses and participation from students. There is a research-based approach to the lecture and seminar modules. Interacting with professionals like Karel Vollers, Andrew Watts and others at SOM, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Gensler as part of my dissertation, was surely an elevating experience which will stay with me for years to come.

- 2.1 class UK honours degree in architecture (or international equivalent)
- Applicants with other relevant professional qualifications and experience should consult admissions
- A portfolio of relevant academic and/or professional architectural/environmental/urban design work required along with the application
