Student shows 2013: Nottingham Trent University

Valeria Passetti reviews Nottingham Trent University’s end of year show

The school’s approach is to nurture and explore each student’s design potential with a non-invasive guiding hand. The Nottingham and Derby Society of Architects has been sponsoring NTU students’ prizes for many years, and during that time we have seen students’ work going from strength to strength. This year the students were given a variety of interesting briefs, all part of the comprehensive design studio module. The briefs were carefully developed and the work was appropriately contextualised.

Standout unit Tutor Gavin Richards’ ‘Urban Cemetery’ project.

Standout students Three students’ work is remarkable in design, contextualisation and presentation. Matt Wilson’s work is a unique take on a very delicate brief for the
General Cemetery in Nottingham. His design is mature and harmonious with the landscape. Jorge Dainton and Tobias Power worked with tutor Geoff Pyle on the ‘Marine Research Centre’ project in the Arsenale in Venice. Both projects are outstanding and immaculately presented.
