Student shows 2013: London South Bank University

India Wright reviews the London South Bank University’s end of year show

Located in the heart of the capital and with a student intake as diverse as the city, LSBU provides students with a reference-rich base. And walking through the new Hawkins\Brown designed Student Centre where this years’ show was hung the results were in evidence - a mixed tapestry of international influence with a distinctly London tone adorned the walls, while a proliferation of 3D-printed models decorated tables.South Bank’s architecture course combines theory and technology alongside design with contextual emphasis to equip students for the world of work. And with increased investment, the quality of work is improving year on year.

Standout unit Diploma level Studio 8 led by Lilly Kudic. Her students looked at the potential impacts of Crossrail on London. It was pleasing to see the inventive work of second year students who created ‘transformable museums’ under the energetic tutorship of Steve Bowkett.

Standout student Angela Vanezi explored accommodation options with her Fujimoto-esque structure on mechanical stilts.

In a word Promising
