Spoof Southend Pier airport plan revealed

An outfit calling itself ‘Makeit Architects’ has mooted a satirical proposal for an international airport hub on Southend Pier

Described by @RIBAJ as ‘almost believable’ and @MakeArchitects as ‘awesome thinking’, the proposal features an airport at the end of Southend pier to meet London’s future aviation needs.

The satirical plan follows a spate of proposals aimed at solving the UK’s aviation capacity problems. Weston Williamson and Make Architects have suggested transforming Luton and Stanstead Airports respectively into a four-runway hubs. Foster and Partners and Gensler have also put forward proposals to create new super-connected hubs in the Thames Estuary.
