The Arc dining table by Foster + Partners

Foster table wins Grand Designs award

The Arc dining table, designed by Foster + Partners for Molteni & C, received the best furniture design award at the 2010 Grand Designs Awards on 6 May. The soft, fluid form of the table’s base is inspired by the temporary fabric structures that are increasingly popular and widespread in contemporary architectural design.

The base, made of an innovative material composed of cement and organic fibre, is resistant and elastic at the same time, and lends itself to complex structures. It is also waterproof, and the mass-coloured base - in white and two tones of grey - ensures the colour stays fresh throughout its lifespan. The table can be used outdoors.

Arc complements its base with tempered glass tops in an extra-light finish. The base can be turned upside-down to reveal an alternative finish, which is inherent in the table’s manufacturing process.
