Rushmatters - English rush floor matting

For further information please click here

In our desire to promote indigenous material, rush floor matting ticks so many boxes. This English bullrush is harvested annually from the River Ouse, then hand-plaited and sewn together with jute
twine. There is a gentleness and beauty in the texture and its natural gold/green mellow tones. This flooring deserves to be in both contemporary and traditional interiors. After all, it was good enough for the Anglo-Saxons.
There is no maximum size for this rush floor matting – a recent commission was 52m x 6.7m. The matting is 10mm thick, and underlay may also be provided from recycled fibres. Rushes also lend themselves to furniture and furnishing – for example, rush mattresses, 10cm thick, are available for seating. Rushes are both filters and natural gaskets, but must be dampened regularly with an atomiser in centrally heated environments, with the exception of bathrooms.
