Transparent, sustainable, promotional - Mediamesh at WinStar World Casino, Oklahoma
Poker, bingo and Black Jack - Today, gambling is one of the main sources of income of Native American tribes. Thus, the Chickasaw Nation (English: rebel) operates various casinos in Oklahoma. WinStar World Casino, located on the Oklahoma-Texas border is currently the third largest casino in the world. Besides slot machines and table games, the 48.200 square metre area is home to a 400-room hotel and a 3,000-seat concert hall. The casino owes its name to the creative façade as homage to famous architectural projects from all over the world. The building is made up of eleven different sections representing elements from Westminster Abbey, Palazzo Veccio or the Great Wall.
The new four-storied and 1,400 space parking garage harmoniously blends into the overall architectural picture. Besides featuring elements of the Pantheon and the Chrysler Building, two semi-transparent Mediamesh screens by GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG attract attention. Fourteen mesh panels in total, each 3,9 metres wide and ten metres long, clad two storeys of the parking garage on the North and Northwest side of the building.
Michael Huff, architect of the Chickasaw Nation Division of Commerce, was convinced by functionality and aesthetics of the medialised stainless steel mesh. The transparent structure guarantees natural ventilation. Additionally, the mesh is weather resistant and self-cleaning, thereby lowering costs for maintenance. Integrated LED profiles of the newest generation are arranged five centimetres apart vertically and 4,25 centimetres horizontally and ensure complete daylight suitability. Thus, moving images and sophisticated graphics are reproduced in superb quality. Due to virtually unlimited life, low power consumption and light sensors controlling brightness, the system is very energy efficient and environmentally friendly. At the same time, the transparent media façade functions as advertising and communication platform targeting commuters using the busy interstate 35 which passes the casino.
