ROCKWOOL® Launches New Building Manual for ROCKSHELL® Wall System

ROCKWOOL® has extended its suite of technical support materials for the ROCKSHELL® wall system with the launch of a new ‘Building Manual’. This comprehensive technical handbook provides exact installation details for constructing ROCKSHELL® on-site as well as broader information on specifying and working with the low energy wall system.

Designed for architects, contractors and installers, the Building Manual is essentially a step-by-step guide to assembling ROCKSHELL® and takes this through to post-construction support.

Part One of the guide covers the pre-construction phase, focusing on elements such as the design specifications, performance and system components. As a patented modular system with few components, ROCKSHELL® is constructed of I-shaped steel profiles encompassed in ROCKWOOL® insulation and an airtight OSB lining on the inside. The Building Manual details the construction parameters of these system components, such as load bearing capacity and interfacing with other building elements.

Part Two is dedicated to the installation sequence, providing comprehensive guidance on erecting ROCKSHELL®, ensuring a smooth build and achieving maximum system performance. By supplying the system in ‘kit-form’ and now with the detailed Building Manual, ROCKWOOL® aims to minimise the room for installation error and ultimately increase the robustness of the installation. These measures mean the ROCKSHELL® wall system typically achieves a U-Value of 0.143W/m2K, making it an ideal specification for projects targeting superior thermal performance or higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Matthew Bromley, UK Business Manager for the ROCKSHELL® wall system, comments: “The Building Manual has been developed as an all encompassing guide that can be used by architects, contractors and installers alike. With the system still being new to market, we’ve gone to exceptional detail to ensure that even those who have never worked with ROCKSHELL® before will find it easy – which is of course backed up the technical and specification team here at ROCKWOOL®.”

The Building Manual is the latest release by ROCKWOOL® to underpin the use of ROCKSHELL® in the UK. Also available are the ‘Design & Construction’ and ‘Building & Construction’ guides as well as a technical website.
