Kawneer thermally enhances its windows range
The first of a two-phase thermal enhancement of its AA®600 series of windows has been launched by architectural aluminium systems supplier Kawneer. The company has called upon the German engineering expertise of its sister company within the Alcoa group.
The company has called upon the German engineering expertise of its sister company within the Alcoa group to ensure its AA®602 pivot, AA®603 tilturn and fixed light windows are compliant with Part L of the Building Regulations until 2013.
The enhanced thermal performance has been achieved for the AA®600TE series by the inclusion of convection fins and the use of a closed-cell polyethylene rod fitted under the glass. This has taken the U-values of the AA®603TE tilturn window down to 1.5W/m²K – out-performing the Part L 2010 target of 1.7W/m²K.
Other than that, the hardware for the AA®601TE and AA®602TE windows remains the same, saving Kawneer’s network of approved specialist contractors from re-tooling, re-stocking and re-training, and saving a massive premium on cost – factors they had identified in a focus workshop.
The new AA®600TE series was independently tested at the BRE and achieved Best in Class performance in the BS 6375 impact test (level 5). It also achieved Class 4 for BS EN 12207 (air permeability), class C5 for BS EN 12210 (resistance to windload) and exceeded class 9A of BS EN 12208 (watertightness) in accordance with the product standard BS EN 14351 Part 1.
