GKD - The Holmenkollen ski-jump in Oslo

As part of the renewal of the Holmenkollen ski-jump construction, Oslo gains a spectacular new landmark with the first iron ski-jump.

JDS Architects picked the stainless steel mesh type Sambesi light and PC-Sambesi of GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG as their material of choice for the design ski-jump. Tested in wind tunnels, the design mesh meets sophisticated aesthetic demands and also serves as a wind filter.

Approximately 7300 m² of the stainless steel mesh converts the wind into a laminar air stream and protects ski jumpers from being caught by a squall. Due to the extreme weather conditions of the “world’s winter capital” the metal mesh convinced the architects with qualities such as weather-resistance, robustness and nearly unlimited life service.
