GKD - Metal mesh for interior design

With more than 150 years of history and over 280 attorneys, Phelps Dunbar located in the south of the USA is a top-notch law firm. The most recent success of the prospering chancellery is the honouring of five Dunbar Partners as “Lawyers of the Year”.

Founded in 1853, the honourable law firm which consists of seven offices places a great deal of value on a classy as well as contemporary appearance. The interior zone of the office in Baton Rouge was recently remodelled by the globally operating architecture firm Gensler.

A characteristic style element, which combines highest aesthetic requirements as well as ease of installation, was needed for the designing of the stairways. Metal mesh by GKD-Gebr. Kufferath AG, type Futura 3110, fulfilled these requirements and came into use at the stairwell area.

In the interplay with the lighting of the stairway the reflecting stainless steel mesh evokes fascinating light effects. In addition to the clamping at the top and bottom end the metal mesh is attached to the stringers in both ascending and descending direction. A nearly four meter wide and about eleven meter tall rectangular mesh panel divides the stairwell. Due to its transparency, it provides the desired spacious and high-quality appearance.
