Forbo Flooring Systems - The DNA collection – As individual as you are
Forbo Flooring Systems has launched the DNA carpet tile collection, the result of its latest collaboration with Design Studio Sottsass Associati of Milan. Conceived to deliver the blueprints of life underfoot, this innovative floor covering range breaks down the boundaries of traditionalcarpet tiling giving creative specifiers the freedom to blend, fuse and create spaces withindividual characteristics.
The DNA design, inspired by random blocks of ‘genetic code’, has a textured cut and loop construction. Available in a range of eight sophisticated colourways, each tile is tufted from two contrasting yarn colours with a subtle tone-on-tone contrast. Each DNA colourway is in turn co-ordinated with two RNA tiles. These single colour tiles are designed to highlight and enhance the character of DNA, and are dyed exactly to match their DNA parent. Merging DNA and RNA tiles together delivers a distinctive and completely fluid aesthetic enhanced by the broadloom appearance of this unique carpet tile system.
“DNA can be used as the building blocks for any interior architecture,” comments Jason Holmes, Forbo’s Head of Textile Design. “Conceived through a fusion of concordant elements and tones, a surprising aspect of the subtly geometric DNA is that perceptions of the design are continuously changing as one interacts with it. This is something designers can play with to draw people in and experience the space in which it’s used.”
David Breen, Forbo’s International Product Manager for Carpet Tiles comments: “Sottsass Associati was asked to create a design concept with no restrictions or preconceptions, resulting in a design that presented Forbo with an exciting challenge.
“The requirement for regimented and regular blocks is right at the limit of current tufting technology, while the colourations in the DNA cut and loop are extremely sophisticated tone-on-tone interpretations in hues which are minimal, yet appealing.”
DNA literature and samples are now available and the entire collection can be viewed at Forbo’s London Showroom in Clerkenwell EC1.
