Ecophon - Hawbush Primary BSF School

Hawbush School has been part of a major rebuilding programme by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council’s  Directorate of Children’s Services Primary Strategy for Change.

Since spring 2012, the school’s children and teachers have been benefitting from improvement work that has helped bring their originally Victorian school into the 21st century.

Hawbush Primary is an inner city school and the aim of the project was to create a better teaching and learning environment. The work was partly new build and partly refurbishment and was carried out over a period of around 18 months, with completion in March 2012.

Acoustically, the architect, Norman Lowther, was looking for good frequencies in all rooms. The intention was that each room throughout the school would be suitable for a wide range of uses and able to accommodate hearing-impaired children.

Kay Heritage, Area Sales Manager, said, “The architects like the quality of our products and know that we offer a lot of services to make sure they get optimum acoustics.”

Ecophon ceilings were specified to achieve an excellent acoustic environment in both the new classroom areas and existing structures. The products were installed by contractor ISG John Lyons. Systems in use include Ecophon Master™ E tiles, chosen for their excellent sound absorption and support for speech intelligibility, which helps to cost effectively create the ideal acoustic teaching environment. Focus™ Wing was selected to give the ceiling a visually appealing, integrated finish. Ecophon Super G™ has been installed in the hall as it’s fabric surface has been specifically developed to withstand impact in sport halls and other similar hard wearing environments.
