Pilkington - Activ Blue

London Borough specifies Pilkington Activ Blue for school entrances

Two primary schools in the London Borough of Newham have had new entrances with Pilkington Activ Blue glazing forming the roof. The schools, Manor Primary in Stratford (pictured) and North Beckton Primary, were built over a century apart, but the ease and cost of future maintenance provided by
Activ Blue suited it to use on both schemes.
The self-clean properties of the product have great impact on longterm savings and the blue tint of the glass is visually attractive while reducing glare and heat gain – a potential issue especially in summer. The result is two very different successful spaces that
are comfortable and welcoming.
At Manor Primary the exising main entrance was inadequate and so a new structure, incorporating a
reception area, replaced it. At North Beckton, a recently built school, an extension was required to provide a waiting area.
The active element of Pilkington Activ Blue is the dual-action coating. Once exposed to daylight the coating breaks down and loosens any organic dirt. The hydrophilic coating on the glass causes rainwater to ‘sheet’ down the glass to wash the loosened dirt away.
The quick-drying glass used in the system also reduces streaks, providing clearer external views.
