Levolux solar shading

[PRODUCTS] Fully integrated solar shading system

Architect KSS has teamed up with Levolux to develop a custom fully integrated solar shading system for North West Kent College’s Gravesend campus. This comprises fully automated, rotating, perforated energy screens, fixed aerofoil fins, Matrix XL screening louvres, high-performance ventilation louvres and louvred panels with integral motorised dampers. These help to create an energy-efficient, naturally lit and comfortable learning environment.

A row of 46 perforated-aluminium, motorised energy screens, 750mm wide by 4,500mm high, is installed vertically across the south-facing glazed facade. A stand-alone control system rotates them simultaneously, to follow the movement of the sun. The energy screens reflect and absorb the sun’s rays, helping to control natural daylight levels and significantly reduce solar heat gain.

Forty fixed horizontal panels, each with seven 150mm-wide extruded-aluminium aerofoil fins above south-facing windows, limit the exposure of windows to direct sunlight, which significantly reduces solar heat gain in classrooms.

Matrix XL screening louvres, incorporating 85mm Z-profile louvre blades, screen roof-level plant equipment. Highperformance ventilation louvres extend from ground-floor level in two sections to create a strong, weather-resistant, ventilated facade.
