How to gain CPD using the AJ
Here at the AJ we know how difficult it can be trying to find time to fulfil your CPD requirements. So we’ve launched a new portal to make it easier for you
The portal allows you to take CPD, keep a record of any which you have completed, and download certificates.
The RIBA requires chartered members to undertake 35 hours of CPD each year, at least 20 of these hours should come from the core curriculum, spread evenly between the key topics, while 15 hours can come from informal activities such as reading the AJ or attending AJ events.
Our aim is to enable subscribers to the AJ to fulfil their CPD requirements via their subscription.
Just reading the AJ counts towards annual CPD requirements
To help make CPD easy, we have categorised the modules under the RIBA core curriculum topics; you need to complete 2 hours of CPD for each of the modules, and each AJ CPD counts as 30 minutes.
The modules include: being safe, climate, compliance, context, designing and building, external and internal management, procurement and contracts and where people live.
The CPD modules cover all topics, ranging from the design and specification of lead cladding, to liquidated damages and indemnities, and Part L and Zero Carbon to the problem with PPS5.
How to use the new AJ CPD portal
To use the new AJ CPD portal you do not need to be an AJ subscriber but do need to be registered on the AJ website. If you are not already registered you will be asked to register and create a username and password.
Your AJ CPD account will allow you to see your completed modules and download certificates for each of these.
Once you have logged into the portal, you will be able to see the available CPD modules listed under the relevant categories.
Choose the CPD you would like to undertake and you will be guided through to a page which gives the option to take the course or take the questionnaire.
If you have read the CPD article in the magazine you can go straight onto the questions. If not, read through the article online before completing the questions.
Some CPD modules involve reading an article which has previously been featured in a print issue of the AJ. These have questions at the end which encourage you to reflect on the information which you have just read.
Once you have completed the questions you will have the opportunity to review your answers and to download your certificate.
