BCIS Online Rates Database
Estimate costs at the click of a mouse
BCIS (the Building Cost Information Services of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) has launched an intuitive online service, which provides up-to-the-minute pricing information for building work and materials through a simple web browser.
The Online Rates Database replaces the BCIS Wessex pricing books and offers quick access to BCIS’ independent resource rates data, allowing estimators and surveyors to check costs and ensure accurate budgeting for new-build and refurbishment projects.
The service provides access to five datasets: BCIS Wessex Comprehensive Building Major Works, Comprehensive Building Minor Works, Painting & Decorating, SMM7 and Alterations & Refurbishment, with other titles planned. Users can adjust datasets to include allowances for inflation and regional variations - previously this was a complex, time-consuming manual exercise requiring multiple cross-referencing. Rates can be customised to suit projects by allowing the level of preliminaries to be tailored, with the facility to include or exclude overheads and profit margins. The database also allows access to historic data, to enable crosscomparisons and benchmarking.
