100% Design

Creativity is king at this year’s 100% Design exhibition. Karen Podesta finds out why

Creative Balance, the theme of September’s 100% Design exhibition will explore the creative process and its value in the commercial world, with four central hubs focusing on key industry sectors and a seminar programme that includes a day of talks dedicated solely to architecture.

Richard Rogers and Giulio Cappellini are among the headline speakers in the Talks With 100% Design programme, in the new Benjamin Hubert-designed auditorium. A panel debate on UK architecture and a session from New London Architecture with Peter Murray will also take place in the series of daily sessions.

A collaboration with TILT sees the Office hub investigating the future of the workplace with Hanging Room, where suspended partitions will be lowered and raised to change the function of the hub.

The Interactive Eco, Design and Build hub, produced by Material Lab and Chris Lefteri, will include innovative building and architectural materials, while the Kitchen and Bathroom hub incorporates a live urban farming space and will launch the sector’s latest materials and trends.

The Interiors hub expands to include Super Design Market, a newly established accessories marketplace and a new global competition staged with Talenthouse.

Live debates and demonstrations will discuss sustainability, quality and the empowerment of individual makers.

Outside of the four main hubs, the specially curated International Pavilions will exhibit global design and products, while Emerging Brands will provide a platform for new design companies, products and ideas. Initiatives with the Lighting Industry Association, the Design Council and the Royal College of Art will be highlighted in the new Gateway exhibition, along with special exhibits from leading UK architectural institutions.

Accredited CPD modules for architecture and interior design will be available in special events across the show.
