19-22 September, Earls Court, London
A new layout for 100% Design, now in its eighteenth year, will see four distinct zones based around a central networking hub. The four zones, named: 100% Interiors, 100% Office, 100% Kitchens & Bathrooms and 100% Eco, Design & Build will be connected through this year’s theme – Future Living, which will explore advances in design through multifunctional or sustainable furniture, communication systems and technology-driven products.
The exhibition will also benefit from a new area called Emerging Brands which will focus on products by new and emerging designers.
These include Kirath Ghundoo, a surface pattern designer who launched her first wallpaper collection at last year’s exhibition. Her distinctive geometric wallpapers are sustainable and designed to be applied with a drop, cut, paste and re-apply technique which limits waste.
Julio Thomas’s company Form in Void uses cardboard tubes as the material for his furniture designs, which includes stools, benches and chairs. Form in Void furniture can be assembled or disassembled without fittings and individual elements can be replaced without having to discard the entire item.
Meanwhile, Plant & Moss – formed by James Plant, awarded the 2008 New Designers Award, and fellow designer James Moss – will be exhibiting its range of furniture and lighting products.
The main exhibition will be complemented by a seminar programme, also informed by the theme of Future Living. Ed Vaizey, the Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industry will take part in a panel looking at design and economic growth, while the Architects’ Journal will chair a session entitled ‘Architects’ Question Time’, where a panel of speakers including David Howath, director of DRDH Architects, Joe Morris, founder of Duggan Morris Architects and Gabrielle Omar, director of architecture at Lolli and Square will offer free advice to guests.
Finally, curated pavilions from Europe, South America and the Far East will provide alternative perspectives on contemporary design products.
