Shard crowned with final steel frame

The final steel frame section has been fitted into place at the top of Renzo Piano’s Shard, bringing its height to 310m

The UK’s highest crane - which now stands at 317m - has lifted around 500 tonnes of steel to the top of the central London skyscraper.

This final section will now be fitted with 516 panes of glass cladding, adding to nearly 10,000 panels already installed on the tower.

Set to become Europe’s tallest inhabited building, the Shard will complete externally in June.
