Sensory delight

Astragal notes with interest that vandals have had their way with the Heatherwick-designed Boiler Suit at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.

As much as it is en vogue to criticise these scamps, Astragal wonders if there was a kinder motive behind the unpicking of the boiler's suit than initially apparent. Wandering home from a south London hostelry recently, Astragal noted a young ruffian vomiting into the mesh of said cladding. The next morning a cleaner was spied, trying but failing to reach the remnants of the previous evening's misadventures. Are the 'vandals' merely frustrated cleaners unable to take the sight and smell any longer?
