It seems the furore surrounding the ill-received 2012 Olympic logo may have a more serious impact on the architectural world than first thought. The epilepsy-inducing graffiti-like motif, variously described by critics as ‘a broken swastika’ and ‘a toileting monkey’ is the brainchild of a design team led by Wolff Olins chairman Brian Boylan. Following the uproar, Boylan has now gone into media hiding, with enquiries from the design and national press being met with no response. Boylan’s reticence is unexpected for one in the public relations world, and it poses an interesting dilemma for CABE. Boylan is a board member at the quango, where he uses his skills to advise the body on erm… communications. Is a Garboesque wall of silence about to descend on the watchdog?
