Pyrrhic victory in Scotland

To the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh and the opening night of 3x3, an exhibition of the work of three new academicians

It says much about the Scots, said one discerning visitor, that the Gareth Hoskins-designed centre at Culloden, the site of a battle the Scots famously lost, cost twice as much (£10 million) as Reiach and Hall’s visitor centre to commemorate a victory over the English at the Battle of Bannockburn (£5 million).

Rumours that £100 million has been earmarked to commemorate the infamous 1-0 Scots defeat to Costa Rica in the 1990 World Cup are unfounded.
