Property developer the Beresford Project has bought a run-down property in Richmond, west London, which it is using to realise its vision of the eco-house of the future.
The demand for improved energy efficiency has been driven by current consumer trends and legislation such as Energy Performance Certificates – part of the newly introduced Home Information Packs scheme.
Green Frog Solar is a new sustainable energy division of Nu-lok Roofing Systems, which aims to deliver affordable and easy-to-install methods of solar energy use to UK homeowners. The Beresford Project specified 70m2 of Green Frog's glass solar tiles for its eco-house, which replaces the original structure on the site, now demolished, including Nu-lok's patented roofing system and Nu-lok slate.
The subtle integration of tiles means that the solar hot-water system does not require planning permission, as there are no protrusions from the roof. Green Frog has also introduced photovoltaic panels to the roof.
It is predicted that with such an extensive area of solar slates, more than enough space heating and hot water will be produced to meet the requirements of occupants. The estimated saving on annual waterheating costs is 100 per cent.
