Pretty steep

Poor old John Pawson has attracted ridicule for his swanky tastes in the current issue of Private Eye

No fewer than eight readers nominated a quote from the minimalist designer for Pseud’s Corner – the magazine’s ongoing collection of pretentious twaddle.

The offending passage – about Pawson’s favourite cuppa – comes from an interview he gave to the Financial Times. ‘A recent “find” is the Blanc Sacré tea from Mariage Frères in Paris. The pickers harvest the buds using golden scissors.’ Astragal hardly expects Pawson to nominate Typhoo or PG Tips – but this brew retails at €68 for 5g!
