You'll believe a chair can fly

A manufacturer is launching a chair that brings the principles of the Maglev train to domestic relaxation.

Hoverit will launch its floating lounger at the Ideal Home Show, which opens on 14 March. 'Floating' on floor-mounted magnets, which repel those in the base of the chair, the manufacturer promises users of the chair a sensation 'like floating on a cloud'. It also suggests that permanent magnets can help back and muscular problems and headaches so the chair 'may make you feel good as well'.

The default design is in clear acrylic, so that you can see the workings, but other options are also available. And if you are worried about how to move it from place to place, the lounger comes with ordinary castors - and even a non-scratch mat.
