Work starts on PTEa's Lymington Fields housing scheme
Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects (PTEa) has started work on this £78 million housing scheme in the Chadwell Heath area of Barking and Dagenham
PTEa’s competition-winning Lymington Fields scheme includes 418 homes with a mix of private, affordable rented and shared ownership houses.
The homes are a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom flats. The site also includes a two-form entry primary school located at the centre of the site.
The 20 acre site was released by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson as part of a drive to unlock development on public sector land.
Carl Vann, director at PTE said: ‘We have worked hard with Lovell and the design team to develop residential neighbourhoods which have individual character and identity. The approach avoids suburban sprawl in favour of a mixture of tree-lined avenues, terraces, mews streets and courts and a variety of innovative and flexible house types appropriate to the local area and market.’
Boris Johnson added: ‘This is one of the largest regeneration projects ever seen in Dagenham and will transform this site into hundreds of much needed new low-cost homes. This former gravel pit is part of thousands of acres of land I’m releasing to double the number of homes being built for hardworking Londoners and ease demand for more good quality homes.’
The scheme is set to complete in 2017.

The mixed-tenure development will include 213 private homes, alongside 104 affordable homes for rent and another 45 available through shared ownership.

The scheme also includes a two-form entry primary school, located at the centre of the site, fronting the new central square and forming a community hub within the development.
The site in the Chadwell Heath area of Barking and Dagenham was released by the Mayor of London as part of a drive to unlock development on public sector land.
The scheme is set to start on site at the end of this year, with completion due in 2016.
