Coop Himmelblau chief Wolf Prix is about to start work with Zaha Hadid and Greg Lynn on a top-secret project in Russia, it has emerged.
The maverick Austrian architect revealed the sensational appointment last week while in London to pick up his International Fellowship from the RIBA.
Details of the scheme remain sketchy, although his long-standing friendship with Hadid is well-documented and dates back to his time teaching at the Architectural Association.
Prix admitted he was looking forward to working with her. He said: 'I really appreciate Hadid, I worship her. She's really great.'
Despite his recent accolade from the RIBA, the 63-year old architect has yet to build anything in the UK and confessed to the AJ that the practice has never been invited to enter any British competitions.
Meanwhile Prix, who landed the high-profile European Central Bank scheme last year, has decided to effectively pull out of the Chinese market. He said: 'We have just given back a commission in China.
'To be honest China is just a crude mixture of the worst of communist and capitalist attitudes.'
He added: 'I'm astonished architects want to work there.' by Richard Waite
