vPPR to design Turkish Ceramics installation for 100% Design
London-based vPPR has revealed designs of its ‘Foam Dome’ for 100% Design
In a collaboration with Turkish Ceramics, vPPR’s Foam Dome will form the main hub for the kitchen and bathroom section of the annual exhibition.
The pavilion, which is made of soap foam, will create a ‘sculptural, utopian dreamland’.
The lightweight, white geodesic dome will hand from above and will be covered in a mesh from which foam is emitted, creating a frothy, interactive breathing membrane.
Jessica Reynolds, director at vPPR, said: ‘We’ve designed Foam Dome around the idea of cleanliness, referencing the purifying and luxurious experience of a spa. We are fascinated by the architecture of foam and its ambiguous character. The composition and atmospheric quality of the Foam Dome is serene and inviting, drawing people towards its effervescent, glistening and constantly changing envelope. We think that incorporating the characteristics of foam into the pavilion is a playful approach to the Kitchen and Bathroom hub.’
Earlier this year, Turkish Ceramics sponsored an AJ event in which six leading design studios, including Zaha Hadid, Studio Weave and Hopkins, designed a contemporary water kiosk for one of three sites in London: Soho, Exhibition Road and the South Bank.
100% Design takes place between 17 – 20 September at London’s Earls Court.
