Terry Pawson completes Linz Opera House

Terry Pawson Architects’ 45,000m² opera house and music theatre in Linz, Austria, opens to the public next week

The project has been completed seven years after the UK practice defeated 200 entries in the contest for the high-profile scheme (AJ 20.04.06). The value of the winning, which occupies a former hospital site south of the River Danube, project was estimated at €143 million Euros in 2006.

Linz’s principal dual carriageway was re-routed to allow direct access to the 1,000-seat opera house from Volksgarten (Peoples Park).
