Team selected to revamp Shepherd's Bush Common

A design team led by Whitelaw Turkington landscape architects with Form Associates and Barr Gazetas Architects has won a £3.3 million contract to redesign west London's Shepherd’s Bush Common.

According to the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, the scheme will restore the common's 'important historic qualities whilst creating a safer and more attractive place with enhanced facilities for play and events'.

The team’s design includes the creation of a boulevard around the common's perimeter which will provide walking and cycling routes and a space for potential markets. At the eastern end, the existing war memorial will be given a new civic setting.

A detailed brief for the scheme will be developed through consultation with local residents and other stakeholders. Works will commence in February 2009 with completion planned for November 2009.

Whitelaw Turkington recently completed Gillett Square, the first of the Mayor of London’s 100 Public Squares for London.
