Stock Woolstencroft wins green light for tower despite CABE reservations

Stock Woolstencroft has won planning permission for this 43-storey skyscraper next to East London's Olympic Park despite CABE criticising the scheme twice last year.

In November, the design watchdog repeated earlier criticisms it made over the design quality of the scheme, and stated it still had ‘fundamental concerns’ about the proposals.

CABE’s report said: ‘[The] revisions are not sufficient to address our fundamental concerns about the quantum and architectural quality of development proposed. We continue to think that the architect and client need to reconsider the brief and urban design strategy for this project based on a sound understanding of the site and its role in the wider Stratford context.
