Star-studded list makes Olympic HQ shortlist

AL_A, Farshid Moussavi, OMA and Toyo Ito have made the shortlist to design a new headquarters for the International Olympic Committee in Switzerland

Amanda Levete Architects and Farshid Moussavi Architecture are the two London practices among a star-studded shortlist for the scheme to house 450 staff next to Lake Geneva.

A total of 12 practices from around the world will compete for the project to design the 18,000m2 Olympic Campus.

The building is a move to centralise the committee’s operations. Staff are currently spread across five different sites.

All finalists will now receive £21,000 to develop their proposals for the 2.4ha site, with a winner due to be chosen later this year.

The winning design will need to take into account the Château de Vidy, which was classed as a historical monument in 1971.

The site includes Olympic House and a multifunction center, both of which can be demolished if evidence of their existence is retained.

The International Olympic Committee is the supreme authority of the Olympic Movement.
