St Jude's storm wreaks havoc on AHMM's Old Street inflatable

The giant beach ball at the site of AHMM’s White Collar Factory at Old Street became detached in gale winds today, causing disruption to motorists

Gale force winds caused the 10 metre-wide sculpture to come free of its moorings and to fall on to the road where motorists were forced to swerve round the beach ball as they drove to work.

Islington Council later sent a team to deflate the sculpture and remove it to prevent it causing accidents.

The sculpture was designed by Morag Myerscough to represent the tonne of carbon emissions saved in two days at AHMM’s proposed office block in comparison with conventional Part L offices.

The carbon footprint caused by the disruption to this week’s traffic and the operation to remove the hapless beach ball has yet to be calculated.
