Sprunt scoops new playground for Urban Splash

London-based practice Sprunt has won the competition to design a new playground in Altrincham's John Leigh Park for developer Urban Splash.

The firm saw off 47 other entries to scoop the RIBA-organised Manchester Children's Play Area competition with its proposals for an 'imaginative, accessible and exciting play area that complements the existing rural nature of John Leigh Park.'

The design was picked by the public from a four-strong shortlist which included Xcite, Atkins and Europan 8 winner Loop Architects.

More than 200 people visited the anonymous exhibition showcasing the finalists at Urban Splash's Budenberg HAUS Projekte in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.

It is understood Sprunt will now collaborate with Urban Splash to work up the designs for the park in more detail.
