SOM goes east with Polish skyscraper - image

SOM's London office has been approached to design a new 25-storey luxury apartment block in Poland.

Commissioned by Irish developer IGD, the 285-unit skyscraper will be sited in the up-and coming Mirow district in Warsaw.

The newly emerging area west of the city centre was once the main industrial district of the Polish capital but is now being hailed as a key commercial, residential and hotel quarter.

According to SOM, the 27,000m 2scheme has been designed for the 'new generation of Warsaw professionals' and will boast a health club and a string of restaurants.

The tower will sit next to the new 28-storey Hilton Hotel which is currently under construction.

SOM will again work alongside Chicago-based engineer Epstein, having already collaborated with the firm on the Rondo ONZ development - also in Warsaw.

Construction is expected to start next year.
