Slovenia tops EU construction growth

Slovenia has topped the EU construction growth table for the second consecutive month

The former Yugoslavian nation saw construction output rise by 7.6 per cent in October, according to preliminary data from EU statistical office Eurostat.

This came after a rise of 8.2 per cent in the previous month, as the country bucked the wider EU trend.

Across the EU, construction output fell by 0.3 per cent in October, after an adjusted 0.7 per cent fall in September.

Slovenia’s output was more than a quarter higher in October 2013 than it was in the same month the previous year. Overall output across the EU fell over the same period.

Among the member states for which data was available for October 2013, Spain suffered the largest monthly fall, of 2.9 per cent.

Slovakia saw a drop of 2.3 per cent and Germany of 1.7 per cent.

After Slovenia, the Czech Republic had the greatest monthly rise, at 7.2 per cent, followed by Romania at 4.0 per cent.

Portugal suffered the greatest annual drop to October 2013, with output more than 15 per cent down from the same month a year earlier.

EU construction output rose for a record five successive monthsto August 2013.
