Shedkm wins planning for Croydon 'gateway' development

Shedkm has won planning for this 10-storey mixed-use scheme at the Ruskin Square site in Croydon

The commerical project features a double height retail space at the ground floor with 22,000m² of office space above and a south facing terrace on the eighth floor.

Croydon Council has granted planning for the scheme which sits adjacent to East Croydon station, subject to a number of conditions, including the reduction of glare from the building’s facades.

The speculative project will act as a ‘gateway’ for developers Stanhope and Schroders’ 37,000m² Ruskin Square redevelopment.

A spokesman for the developers said: ‘[We] are pleased to announce we have received planning permission from Croydon Council for the speculative office building designed by shedkm at Ruskin Square and further announcements on developments at the site will be made in due course.’

The building will stand next to a new pedestrian bridge at East Croydon Station and opposite AHMM’s 22-storey residential tower, which will start on site later this year.

Shedkm was chosen to design the building in October 2012. The practice replaced Foster + Partners which had won planning permission for the scheme’s masterplan in July 2012, and was widely expected to design around 93,000m² of pre-let office space at the site.

Shedkm’s Ruskin Square ‘gateway’ building submitted for planning

Shedkm has submitted a planning application for this 10-storey office block at the Ruskin Square site in Croydon

Part of developers Stanhope and Schroders’ 3.7 ha Ruskin Square redevelopment the office block will act as a ‘gateway’ to the site.
