Seven form breakaway group in race for Saltire

Studio KAP Architects and Malcolm Fraser Architects are just two of the front-runners competing for one of the most prestigious housing awards in Scottish architecture, it has emerged.

A list of those breaking away from the pack as leading contenders for the Saltire Awards was this morning revealed to the AJ. The winners are to be announced at a ceremony next Thursday (22 September).

Out of a field of 22 new homes visited by the judging panel, seven schemes in particular have captured the imagination of the judges.

These are:

extension at 12 Broomhill Place, Glasgow, by Studio KAP Architects;

Glenboig Cottage, Fintry, by Studio KAP Architects;

conversion of The Press, Edinburgh, by Duffy and Batt;

The Drum Phase 3, Boness, by Malcolm Fraser Architects;

an anonymous house in Ross-shire, by Brennan and Wilson Architects;

The Stable Block, Binny House, Ecclesmachen, by Crichton Wood Architects; and

A'Chrannag, Rothesay, by Gokay Deveci.

Following the ceremony Liverpool-based architect and Shed KM director James Weston will talk about his work.
