Scotland's two heritage bodies to merge
Scotland’s two key heritage bodies are to be merged to help drive the Scottish government’s newly announced ten-year vision for the management of the country’s historic environment
Under The Historic Environment Scotland Bill, Historic Scotland and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) will merge to form a new body called Historic Environment Scotland (HES).
In tandem with the formation of HES a new strategy document, entitled Our Place in Time, has also been released.
Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop, said: ‘Our Place in Time sets out a vision for everyone across the sector, building on existing strengths to unlock the true potential of our historic places.
‘Combining the skills, expertise and professional experience of Historic Scotland and RCAHMS, HES will take a lead role in protecting and managing Scotland’s rich historic heritage to ensure it can be enjoyed now and in the future.’
