RIBA launches comp for new sculpture

A competition has been launched this week to find an artwork design to mark the entrance to a new hospital by HLM and Avanti Architects.

The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust in assocatiation with the RIBA is looking for an 'innovative sculptural piece' for the new facility.

The sculpture would act as a landmark beacon for the entrance to the new BECaD (Brent Emergency Care and Diagnostic Centre) building at Central Middlesex Hospital, due to be finished in spring 2006.

It is hoped that the artwork will 'reflect the essence of this new urban hospital and its multicultural communities'.

The competition is open internationally to artists, landscape architects, architects, urban designers, professionals from related disciplines, and students of these disciplines.

A first prize of £3,000 will be awarded. The deadline for design ideas is 14 September.
