BDP’s much-loved and soon-to-be-flattened bus station in Preston has been recreated in LEGO
The mini-masterpiece has emerged just days after the Twentieth Century Society made a last ditch bid to win listed building status for the Brutalist icon.
Preston resident, and architecture entuhsiast, Rob Hasker was inspired by the 1969 bus station’s ‘nice lines that translate well into LEGO’ to recreate the iconic building.
Last month Preston City Council’s made the controversial decision to bulldoze the Brutalist icon rather than spend £23 million on its refurbishment (AJ 18.12.2012).
English Heritage has twice recommended that the bus station, which has been under threat for more than 12 years, be given listed status in 2000 and 2009.
On both occasions the applications were turned down by the Secretary of State.
The bus station was also recreated in cake last year to celebrate the Preston Cake City event as part of Preston Guild 2012.
