Planners bowled over by Will Alsop's plans for cricket ground

Will Alsop has been given the green light for this 4,000m2 stand at the world-famous Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground in Leeds.

The pavilion project at the home of Yorkshire County Cricket Club is jointly backed by Leeds Metropolitan University and will incorporate lecture theatres as well as new changing rooms, media and hospitality facilities.

The scheme, with its 'crumpled' roof, was unveiled back in April (AJ 24.04.08) and was approved last week by Leeds City Council.

Due to start on site later this year, the SMC Alsop-designed building is expected to open in 2010.
