Patel Taylor and Jestico + Whiles take over from Rogers in Southampton

Patel Taylor and Jestico + Whiles are taking over Richard Rogers' huge masterplan for Woolston Riverside on the south coast.

Following a fresh OJEU notice, the London practices will produce detailed proposals for Roger's original concept for the 12ha site in Southampton ( pictured).

The project will include a new central piazza with waterfront access, together with commercial space for retail, food and drink, leisure and community facilities, according to local regeneration agency SEEDA.

Developer Crest Nicholson - which SEEDA appointed earlier this month - has been working closely with the designers to produce the current proposals.

Work on site preparation is due to start in the spring of 2007, with residential space due to commence in summer 2007.

According to Crest Nicholson, the development will take eight years to construct.

Richard Rogers Partnership (RRP) unveiled its masterplan for the key waterside site early in 2005.

RRP director Mark Darbon said: 'SEEDA made it clear from the outset that it would be up to the chosen developer to take the masterplan forward to detailed design stage and to appoint architects and other consultants for this purpose.'
