Oxford seeks 'visionary' affordable housing ideas

Oxford is asking architects and designers to come up with innovative ideas for affordable housing.

The Oxford Strategic Partnership (OSP) has already received some ideas, including self-build projects and plans for building affordable housing on top of car parks, but is seeking further submissions.

OSP chairman Peter Couchman said: ‘We want this to be an opportunity for visions, aspirations, ideas and solutions to be put forward so that we really can find a way for the Oxford Strategic Partnership to help increase the amount of truly affordable housing in Oxford.’

The OSP – which has representatives from Oxford City Council, Oxford Brookes University and Oxford University, among others – said it would consider ideas and designs ‘whether [applicants] were professionals with a fully worked-out scheme or members of the public with an idea’.

Ideas or examples of good practice should be sent to OSP co-ordinator Sebastian Johnson at or by post to: Sebastian Johnson, Oxford Strategic Partnership, c/o Oxford Town Hall, St Aldate’s, Oxford OX1 1BX.
