OMA designs Kuwait exhibition hall

Stirling Prize 2012-shortlisted practice OMA is to design a large department store and public event space in Kuwait City

The exhibition hall, in the Middle Eastern city’s 360° Mall, will feature a flexible retail space hosting cultural programs, exhibitions and installations.

Rotterdam-headquartered OMA said the venue was aimed at re-establishing a historic Kuwaiti connection between culture and commerce.

The three-floor, 9,400m2exhibition hall will receive natural light during the day, and present a glowing aspect to the street at night through a translucent façade.

It continues OMA’s interest in creating innovative retail spaces.

The practice, which also has studios in China and the US, designed the Prada Epicentres in New York and Los Angeles, and an exhibition on the history of Galeries Lafayette in Paris.

Construction of the exhibition hall is scheduled to start and finish in 2014.
