Short description of the contract or purchase(s):
Architectural and design services relating to the refurbishment of St Andrew's and Blackfriars' Halls, which formed the monastic church, together with their surrounding medieval friary buildings (all Grade 1 listed and a scheduled ancient monument) on a site first settled in the 1240s. The project involves insertion of new elements including interpretation of the complex, introduction of new concert and performance facilities, services and seating for audiences, provision of restaurant and bars, and the addition of a new-build elemnet to the existing complex of a conference suite for up to 400 delegates. It is intended that the project will be an exemplar of low-carbon economic growth. A full design team incorporating all the specialisms needed for the project, including Architect, Conservation Architect, Structural Engineers, Environmental Engineer (M&E), Specialists in lighting, acoustics, and performance, fire, safety, landscape and arboriculturalist, with specialists in sustainability and renewables is expected to be required.

The fee for the professional contract is expected to be expressed as a percentage of the overall capital works contract cost.

This design team is being recruited to provide the architectural and professional services to see the St Andrew's and Blackfriars' Halls project through all stages from Design (Concept stage, through Design Development, Technical Design), Pre-construction, Construction, to Post Practical Completion. This will be broken for practical purposes into two stages.
Stage 1: this will cover the design and pre-construction phases of the project. There will be no commission to begin on this stage unless and until funding has been awarded by grant-making bodies to cover this part of the work.
Stage 2: this will cover the tendering, construction, and post-practical completion stages of the works.
There may be a gap of some months between Stages 1 and 2 while final approvals are awaited from funding bodies.
