Architect and curator Noemi Blager has been announced as temporary chief of the Architecture Foundation

Blager will take over as acting director of the charity while Sarah Ichioka is away on maternity leave.

She will begin on 3 September for an initial period of six months, which may be extended.

Argentinian-born Blager curated the Lina Bo Bardi: Together exhibition at the British Council earlier this year.

Previously she has worked at Sheppard Robson and Rafael Vinoly Architects.

Blager said: ‘I’m honoured to have been asked to take this role at the AF and to continue with Sarah’s wonderful work. Having followed and supported the AF’s programme for many years I look forward to joining such a creative and energetic team.

‘I will work on growing the AF’s international network to have a more fluid collaboration across borders. I’d also like strengthen our connections with the industry, listening, engaging and delivering a relevant programme.’

Ichioka, who has led the foundation for five years, added: ‘I am absolutely delighted that the board has approved my recommendation to appoint Noemi Blager as acting director during my leave.

‘Noemi’s diverse international background, grounding the practice of architecture in its broader economic and cultural contexts, combined with her unparalleled warmth and charm, will make her a perfect steward and advocate for the AF during my period of leave.’
