New Olympic culture boss sought for 2012

The team behind London's 2012 Olympic Games has launched a search for a new head of culture.

The successful applicant will be handed the task of 'curating the world's most ambitious cultural olympiad' and will also scoop a six-figure pay packet.

Although the exact details of the somewhat mysterious role are not yet known, it is understood the post-holder will be expected to mastermind a four-year cultural festival and 'shape the highest-quality moments of creative excellence.'

According to the advert in today's Guardian, the 2012 cultural programme will 'represent a powerful showcase for London's global pre-eminence as a cultural powerhouse.'

Candidates are expected to have a wide-ranging knowledge of the UK arts and cultural sector and the ability to manage long-term, complex cultural projects.

The new head will report to the director of culture, ceremonies and education and the closing date for applications is 29 January.
